Bisexuality

Heterosexuality or homosexual relationships as a form of love affairs have long been under the scrutiny of scientists. However, the aspect of bisexuality is much less researched. In particular, a male predisposition to relationships with both sexes.

Number of bisexuals in population i

In 2013, a large-scale study was conducted in America, according to which about 0.7% of the adult population considers themselves to be bisexual. The researchers also concluded that this figure includes approximately 1.4% of adult men and 2.2% of women.

Possible options for bisexuality2

Often, men with homosexual preferences avoid direct participation in the LGBT community. They enter into traditional romantic relationships with women, and also do not seek to identify with bisexual people. Another category of men are convinced that they belong to this group - and at the same time, they have never had sex with representatives of the same sex in their lives.

Confusion in definitions 3

The main problem here is a lack of understanding of bisexuality. Most scientific research has included only a few dimensions of sexual orientation - this is the direction of attraction, behavior and self-identification. Recently, however, it has become clear that a person's sexual behavior does not have to be equated with their sexual identity or attraction. In order to classify someone as bisexual or, say, heterosexual, it is necessary to explore a number of different personality traits and traits.

Researchers define bisexuality as "the presence of a romantic and physical attraction to a representative of more than one sex." This ability may or may not manifest itself at the level of sexual interactions: in other words, a person knows about his own preferences. But for one reason or another, it does not implement them; and most often social requirements and generally accepted norms become an obstacle.

Developments of scientists 4

The first assumptions about bisexuality in science date back to the middle of the 20th century. Then Alfred Kinsey and his colleagues suggested that human sexuality cannot be divided into two poles - heterosexuality and homosexuality. Rather, it is a continuum; and a very large number of people are somewhere in the middle of these two poles.

In the 1970s, F. Klein examined Kinsey's work in more detail, and developed his own concept of understanding bisexuality - the so-called Klein orientation grid. In his system, 7 different parameters are assessed by which one can judge sexual orientation. These are fantasies, emotional preferences, behaviors, lifestyle, self-identification and social preferences.

Bisexuality Today 5

Traditionally, when studying bisexuality, researchers have relied on a person's own assessment - who he sees himself as. Recently, however, technological advances have contributed to significant progress in this area. For example, the ability to measure with the help of instruments the physiological response to certain stimuli (for example, to record the presence or absence of sexual arousal).

And more and more data allow us to conclude: there is a fairly large stratum of the population (these are both men and women), which can be attributed to bisexuals. This fact can be denied; you can close your eyes to it. However, bisexuality will not disappear from this - at least for those people who actually belong to this category, and not just amuse themselves with fantasies about sex with representatives of the same gender.
